Saint Cecilia Jewelry and Collectables

Born in Rome, Cecilia (2nd century AD) is said to have promised her virginity to God, but her parents forced her to marry a pagan anyway. On her wedding day, Cecilia sang to God in her heart (later making her the patron of musicians and singers). Before consummating her marriage, she promised her husband, Valerian, that she had an angel who would show him favor if he were to be baptized and respect her vow of virginity. Her husband did so, and the angel crowned Cecilia with a chaplet of lilies and roses. Along with his brother who was also baptized, Valerian spent his time burying the martyred in Rome under the prefect Turcius Almachius and was ultimately martyred for his actions.

St. Cecilia continued to convert hundreds of people and was eventually arrested and condemned to death by suffocation in the baths. After a day and night in the scorching heat, Cecilia was still alive. She was then ordered to be beheaded, but after three strokes of the sword, she still lived. Mortally wounded, St. Cecilia continued to preach and convert until her death three days later. She asked that a church be built over the site of her house. in 1599, the body thought to be St. Cecilia's was exhumed and found to be incorrupt.
