The celtic cross originates to as far back as the 9th century Ireland and Scotland and can be found in stone monumental high crosses from that time. Ringed with a nimbus, it is a popular form of insular art and is often accompanied by interlacing. The Since the Celtic Revival of the mid 19th century, the ringed cross has become a symbol of Celtic heritage and identity.
The ichthys, or fish symbol, has been used as a Christian symbol since at least the second century. Christ was certainly a Fisher of Men, and the symbol has been an enduring one! On this cross, the ichthys is creativily interlaced to complete the Celtic look.
