Infant of Prague Gifts and Collectables

"Have pity on me, and I will have pity on you. Give me my hands, and I will give you peace. The more you honour me, the more I will bless you" were the words heard by Father Cyrillus upon finding a discarded and broken wax-covered statue of the infant Jesus behind an altar in the monastery of Our Lady of Victory, Prague. It had been placed in the monastery after having been donated by the Lobkowicz family who claimed to have been given it by St. Teresa of Avila in the mid 16th century. However, in 1631, forces belonging to the King of Sweden sacked the city and plundered the church. Father Cyrillus repaired the statue (replacing its hands), and started the devotion which was then taken up by Carmelites. Many miracles have been attributed to devotion to the statue, and it stands in Prague to this day dressed in rich clothing, wearing an ornate crown, and holding an orb and cross in one hand with the other raised as if in Blessing.
