St. Aidan [Aedan] of Ferns
Also known as St. Maedoc or St. Aidan, he was sent to be baptized on a stone slab across a lake. In his younger days, he was a hostage of King Aed mac Ainmuirech, presumably to ensure the loyalty of his family, but was later released. He soon became a monk and founded several monasteries in Ferns, Ireland.
